He said FIRs would be registered against the vehicles having fake or fancy plates. The drivers who will be fined will get their documents or vehicles back after showing real number plates.
"Personnel of traffic police have started imparting education to students in different educational institutions, bus stands and other places to spread awareness regarding traffic rules, in which senior police officers not only deliver lectures but also distribute pamphlets and booklets," he added.
"The use of vehicles non-prescribed number plate is an illegal act and every citizen should avoid breaking the law otherwise stern will take place," Malik warned. He also advised the wardens to keep an eye on suspicious vehicles.
Malik added that the action would not be limited to drivers as owners of vehicles including motorcycles would be fined or taken to the task. He also stressed the need to create awareness among the people aware rather than issuing fine tickets.
"For the purpose, we are also planning to hold workshops for the awareness of different associations of rickshaws, wagons and other transport unions regarding traffic rules," the CTO concluded.
